Hi, my name is Gabriel Carrejo and I am the definition of a "hoops junkie."  I am a USA Basketball Certified Youth Coach.  As a player and coach, nothing inspires me more than the art of basketball.  I started RISE ABOVE to teach not only the skills of the game, but how those skills teach us about the game of life.

 

I fell in love with basketball as a chubby 8-year-old with a ball and too much time on my hands.  While playing shooting guard for the past 35 years, I’ve experienced the joy of being a part of record-setting high school teams, the Pepperdine University team, and my weekend warrior teams. But coaching youth basketball for the past decade has been the most rewarding experience a hoops junkie like me can have.

 

I’ve learned a lot from the game about the poetry of well-executed teamwork, the bond that forms amongst teammates and coaches, the thrill of a buzzer beater, and the satisfaction of knowing you left it all on the court.  RISE ABOVE is designed to teach skills and enjoy these experiences, both on and off the court.

 

It is my goal to make sure the kids I train not only improve their jumper but also improve their ability to see opportunity, develop a desire to work hard, and become a thoughtful, considerate teammate on and off the court.
